FAQs

How long will therapy last?

The answer is simple but not very helpful: as long as necessary.  If you are paying for our work via an Insurance Company, that company will place a limit on how many sessions it will agree to pay.  If funding yourself, then the length of therapy varies.  Sometimes, just one or two sessions are enough to find a way forward, but most research shows that usually 16 sessions are needed when working with problems such as anxiety and depression.  We will review every few weeks where we are at and discuss whether we need to continue to work together or to work towards our sessions ending.

What is my supervision?

In regular supervision I have a chance to discuss in confidence, the work we are doing and seek advice or a second opinion or get confirmation that I am working to a high professional and ethical standard.

What does my membership of the Health & Care Professionals Council, as well as the British Psychological Society and the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy mean?

These organisations hold national registers of professionals and licence members to practice.  For example, the title ‘Clinical Psychologist’ is a protected title and only professional clinical psychologists meeting the qualifications and on-going requirements for supervision, continued professional development and ethical professional practice may use this title.

Health and Care Professions Council Registered Clinical Psychologist (Registration number PYL16156)

Associate Fellow of The British Psychological Society (BPS) (Registration Number 010663)

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner registered with the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (membership number ACAT 01357)

Deciding to see a clinical psychologist is a big decision and you need to find someone that you feel comfortable working with, who is available and convenient to see.   So give me a call or drop me an email – we can arrange an initial meeting and decide where to go from there.
